Attendance, suspensions and state test results for all 59 Buffalo Public Schools, side by side and back to 2014. Every number comes from the district's own public data dashboard. This page just puts the schools next to each other.
The gray line is the whole district. Pick schools in the table below, up to four, to draw them here too.
Share of all district students in each group with at least one short-term suspension that year. District-wide, so small groups are not split by school.
The district publishes a Data Dashboard (Office of Shared Accountability) as a set of public Power BI reports. This page asks those reports the same questions their own charts ask, for every school and year at once, and keeps only totals by school. No student-level records are collected.
Suspension rates match the dashboard's own charts (8.45% district-wide in 2025-26, 5.79% at PS 3). Grades 3-8 ELA proficiency for 2024-25 matches the state report card school by school, to within half a point.
Students who missed 10% or more of the days they were enrolled, the state's line. The dashboard also labels each student (Severe, Chronic, At Risk, Satisfactory), but those labels are off for 2024-25 and 2025-26: PS 3 shows 84.7% chronic in 2024-25 when 74.2% of its students attended under 90% of days. So this page counts from each student's attendance rate instead. The state's own figure differs by a few points at some schools because it assigns students to schools differently. Pre-K is left out, as on the dashboard. Nothing before 2017-18.
Share of students enrolled at the school at any point that year with at least one short-term (1 to 5 days) or long-term suspension.
Share of grades 3-8 test takers at Level 3 or 4 on the state ELA and math tests. No tests in 2019-20; few students tested in 2020-21. 2025-26 results are not in the dashboard yet. City Honors, Olmsted 156 and the Academy for Visual and Performing Arts read lower in math here than on the state report card, because the state counts 8th graders who took the Algebra I Regents instead.
Any figure built on fewer than 10 students is left blank. Counts of 1 to 4 students at one school are shown as "1-4".
The dashboard updates daily. A few weeks in, chronic absence is not comparable with a full year (it changes as the year goes), so this year is kept off the charts. To compare with last year fairly, the page uses September attendance (a full month in both years) and students suspended by the same calendar date.
