All the Water

Every lake, pond, river and stream inside the Blue Line, and nothing else. No roads, no towns, no shading. The shape of the park is drawn entirely by its own water.

Why the streams thicken

a headwater brookthe Hudson

Every stream is drawn as wide as the water above it. NHD leaves stream order blank for most of New York, so the network was rebuilt here by snapping 48,794 flowlines end to end and accumulating length downhill from the headwaters. By the time the Hudson leaves the park it has miles of channel behind it.

Zoom in. Below about a mile of upstream water the brooks only appear at closer range, or the map would be a solid smear.
